What Is Covered?

GPI provides specialist insurance cover which relates to the property rather than the owner.  So if you decide to sell your property the insurance is automatically transferred free of charge to the new owners, adding value to the purchase price and comfort in the ‘sellers pack’.

Should you be in a position where you need to make a claim you will be helped with sympathetic and knowledgeable staff. The insurance, purchased for a modest one-off payment, provides cover for up to ten or twenty years, dependent on the type of work carried out.  The insurance comes into force if your contractor is no longer trading and covers his liability to you (subject to GPI terms and conditions).

Originally, GPI was set up to cover ‘gradual deterioration’ such as rising damp, wet rot, dry rot, wood boring beetles (woodworm) and failing wall ties, areas which are never covered by standard insurance companies.  As such, it is the only insurance policy available on the market to cover these eventualities.

GPI has now expanded and also covers such items as structural waterproofing, double glazing and conservatories.

Quote from the Guardian

The National Association of Estate Agents and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors advise that when looking for a remedial company you should make sure it is a member of the PCA (formerly the British Wood Preserving and Damp-proofing Association). Ideally it should also be a member of the Guarantee Protection Insurance which insures the work.
